Erikson & Psychosocial Development
Erikson theorized that there are eight stages of development in a persons lifespan.
Early childhood:
Toddlers (2 -4 yrs): Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt During this time period children work toward autonomy. Children begin to do things on their own: feed oneself, use the toilet. As children master new skills they build self-esteem. If children are unable to do things on their own they feel shame and doubt. ("Erikson’s stages of," ) Preschool (4- 5 yrs): Initiative vs. Guilt

Middle Childhood: (5-12 years) Industry vs. Inferiority

Adolescence: (13-19 years) Identity vs. Role confusion
